Prof. Dr.-Ing Hui Zhang is interested in the research field of high-performance pulse width modulation technique for Flexible Alternative Current Transmission (FACTS), Modular Multilevel Converter-High Voltage Direct Current (MMC-HVDC) Transmission System, Active Power Filtering, Dynamic Voltage Restore, etc. Her research works focus in the two main parts: 1. About Optimal PWM technique of controlling High Power Converters to increase the power capability, lower the current distortions, to reduce the filter size, to achieve faster transient responses; 2. About Reliable operation within safe operating area constraints..

开展了高性能新型兆瓦级（MW）大功率变流器控制技术在灵活交流输电、模块化多电平高压直流输电、大功率有源滤波器以及动态电压恢复器等领域的应用基础研究，主要聚焦如下2方面的内容：1. 研究新型优化脉冲宽度调制方法提升大功率变流器在低开关频率下的动态和稳态性能，以提高大功率换流器的功率输出、降低电流畸变、减小滤波器体积、获得极快的动态响应；2. 研究关于系统在安全工作区域限制内的可靠运行等。近年来承担和参与国家自然科学基金面上项目各3项，省部级自然科学基金2项等。
